Role
The role of faculty is multi-functional. The key tasks are: · As an advisory group to advise management on issues in any area of school life. · To evaluate proposals regarding curriculum and assessment procedures · To represent seven areas of learning at faculty level, to discuss issues and communicate with them. · To provide membership and advice for professional development. · To be key participants in the school appraisal system. · To report on the performance of specific learning areas.
Membership
The Headmaster will decide membership of the faculty. Faculty should represent a cross-section of curriculum areas. Membership at present is:
Staff outside the faculty group will be invited to present ideas or be consulted if discussion pertinent to their areas of responsibility is planned
Responsibilities
· Faculty to be responsible for implementation of curriculum. · Faculty to be responsible for management of performance management in each learning area. · Faculty to be responsible for implementation of the school’s assessment programmes. · To make recommendations to the Headmaster, on any areas of management within the school.
Authorities
· To advise on requests for professional development. · To recommend changes to subjects in the curriculum · To approve timetable structure and layout.
Communication
· Faculty members will have agendas distributed electronically by 1pm on the day of the meeting and by hard copy at the meeting. Any readings will be distributed the night before. · Faculty minutes to be relatively brief recording outcomes only, and not general discussion. · Faculty noticeboard to be actioned in the staffroom hard copy circulated to SMT, Faculty, Guidance and teachers with responsibility. All staff to access minutes through noticeboard and by email. · Action points will have deadlines. All items that pertain to your department need to be on your departmental meeting agendas. · Faculty will go into committee on occasions.
Meetings
Faculty meetings to occur fortnightly on a Wednesday, with provision for special meetings if needed.
Meeting times will be published on the term calendar.
Quorum to be five people, but all members are expected to be present. If you know that you
are to be absent, please send a representative from your learning area. · Meetings with learning areas to occur according to meeting cycle or as convenient.
